In True Confections, I use porcelain to create miniature human and animal figures, distressed dinnerware, and life-size bees, mice, and birds, all elements that resonate deeply for me. In choosing the type of plinth on which to assemble these elements, I want to honor the experiences they evoke – the joys of domestic life, the cruelty of nature, the anguish of inequity, and the despair of loss. So I bake cakes for them -- also out of porcelain-- as a tribute, and display the elements on top.

Using cakes as pedestals for sculpture makes them domestic monuments to a full range of emotions, from playfulness to grief.
