Cupcakes flung at walls and dropped on the floor evoke, for me, our frustration with quarantining and social distancing during the ongoing threats to our democracy and world: climate crisis, the migrant crisis, and Black Lives Matters movements. The global situation makes the minor disruptions inside the home -- dirty dishes, dog hair, extraneous noise -- disproportionately distressing. Hurling pretty baked goods seems like one reasonable reaction. List of Grievances, named after a section of the Declaration of Independence, was exhibited at the Sara Nightingale Gallery in Sag Harbor from June through August, 2020.
